Apps for the things worth keeping.

The Firsthand Co. is a small, family-run software studio. We build tools that help people hold on to what's theirs — the recipes, the know-how, the way things are actually done — and put it back to use.

Firsthand Kitchen

A modern family recipe box — that you can cook from. Photograph a handwritten card and get it back readable. Keep the original handwriting, gain a usable archive, and bring family dishes back into everyday life.

  • Keeps the original card exactly as it was written
  • Turns the handwriting into clean, readable ingredients and steps
  • An organized archive you can search instead of dig through
  • Works in any browser and installs to your phone

Our next app is early and we'd rather show it than describe it. When there's something real to try, this is where it'll be.

Who we are

A family business that makes software.

The Firsthand Co. is a two-person studio in East Troy, Wisconsin. We're not a startup chasing a funding round — we build things we wanted to exist in our own house, then make them good enough to hand to yours.

The name is the whole idea. Firsthand knowledge is the kind you got from someone who was actually there. It's worth keeping, and it's easier to lose than anyone expects.

  • Keep the original.Nothing we build asks you to throw away the thing that mattered.
  • Make it usable.Preserved isn't the goal. Used again is the goal.
  • Earn the install.Small, fast, and quiet. No noise you didn't ask for.
